St George's Activity Centre shortlisted at the Offsite Awards

The Activity Centre at St George’s, Weybridge has been shortlisted for Best Use of Timber Technology at this year’s Offsite Awards.

The state-of-the-art Activity Centre boasts a renewably sourced freeform Glulam roof structure and CLT deck that spans the activity spaces, pushing the limits of structural timber to create a gentle wave-like form that blends into the landscape.

Designed by Scott Brownrigg, we worked with Wiehag Timber Construction on the final construction design and production detailing of the Glulam and CLT roof package.

The freeform roof shape dictated that an offsite system had to be used as the timber elements needed to be manufactured to a very high tolerance, with all metalwork connectors being factory fitted to enable fast and safe installation. The manufacturing that took place at their factory in Austria included bevelling the top edges of the Glulam and shaping the edges of the facetted CLT slabs, giving us the curved external roof surface that is so distinctive.

The award winners will be announced at the first ‘virtual’ Offsite Awards, taking place in the afternoon of 22 September 2020.
