Great Western Developments

The Brief

To develop a scheme that provides capacity enhancements to the existing station, including a new ticket hall and step-free access to the platforms. We are working in conjunction with engineers WSP and Renzo Piano Building Workshop (RPBW), who are the architects of the adjacent Paddington Square development.

Concept

We have designed the ticket hall to subconsciously guide passengers and reduce wayfinding decision points. There has been significant interface with RPBW to ensure that the new station entrance and ticket hall has a seamless transition to the complex urban realm above, whilst still maintaining the iconic character of an London Underground station.

Features

Designed using Bentley OBD due to the complex nature of the scheme and geometrical and spatial co-ordination required. The development of the scheme has required in-depth knowledge of station planning, from passenger space proofing to co-ordinating back of house services to meet London Underground requirements.
