The Brief

Together with Engineers, Tony Gee we formed a design team to develop the designs from Transport and Work Acts Order stage through delivery to handover. Creating a high quality architectural concept that exceeded London Borough of Newham’s expectations for a series of large structures that were heavily overlooked.

Concept

Our intent for the architectural form was to reduce the bulk of the depot structures. This was achieved by splitting out functions where operational requirements and site layout allowed, using colour and by incorporating asymmetric extruded forms.

Features

We used the cladding systems to assist in breaking up the visual mass of the depot buildings together with translucent cladding panels that had not been used in depots in such a manner before.
