The Brief

A £250m proposed engineering project to re-route London Underground Metropolitan line Watford branch services north of Croxley Station to a new terminus at Watford Junction. The scheme was promoted by Hertfordshire County Council in partnership with London Underground and Network Rail.

Concept

We created a design language for two new low-cost stations at Cassiobridge and Watford Vicarage Road.  We substantially inputted into the design of the viaduct and bridge structures which connect the existing Metropolitan line to the disused Croxley Green Branch line.

Features

We created initial designs to achieve Department for Transport funding, with significant stakeholder involvement and public consultations. The Rail Link was awarded the necessary central government funding required for its construction. Work on the extension stopped in 2016 due to anticipated cost overruns and an unresolved dispute over funding.
