International design practice Scott Brownrigg has had two high profile schemes selected to be displayed at the AJ Architecture Tomorrow exhibition at MIPIM UK.

Produced by The Architects’ Journal, the exhibition will take place at MIPIM UK from 21-23 October at the AJ Architecture Tomorrow stand (Number B-10). It is a curated gallery of future projects outlining the look and feel of British architecture to come.

As MIPIM UK is certain to attract investors, developers, local authorities and others, it is the perfect audience to view the future of British architecture.

The schemes that will be on display are the Wales International Convention Centre and the new Spark teaching building at Southampton Solent University.

The new Wales International Convention Centre is a 27,000 sq m facility that provides a total capacity for 5,000 delegates, making it the largest of its kind in Wales and the South West of England. Scott Brownrigg’s competition-winning design responded to the client’s brief for a building that would express a sense of permanence, and includes a state-of-the-art auditorium that seats 1,500 delegates. A separate exhibition hall of 4,000 sq m has the flexibility to be divided into smaller spaces to host various sized events simultaneously, and can accommodate up to 3,000 guests. It is due to open in summer 2018.

The new six storey teaching building at Southampton Solent University has been conceived as an academic hub to promote interdisciplinary activity and collaboration. It comprises of a ‘mixed economy’ of book-able teaching spaces. A dramatic full height atrium creates a strong sense of arrival and provides social and flexible spaces and open galleries for exhibitions, shows and events. A distinctive red Pod form is poised in the centre of the atrium and contains an AV seminar room and multipurpose collaboration deck. The building is due to complete in early 2016.

As part of the Architecture Tomorrow exhibition, Peter Griffiths, Project Director at Scott Brownrigg was also interviewed by the AJ, commenting on the exhibition’s importance to architects. To watch the interview, please click here.
