Cambium designed by Scott Brownrigg for Lendlease has been shortlisted for the Development of the Year category at this year’s RESI Awards.Organised by Property Week, the awards celebrate the residential property sector and its successes of the past year. The awards bring together the key players in the residential market including leading developers, landlords, house builders, operators, investors, agencies and local authorities.

The Development of the Year Award is for schemes that have been completed or substantially developed in 2018 which display innovation, vision and boldness, outstanding design features and a high-quality finish, together with a commitment to sustainability, placemaking and regeneration.

Located in Southfields, Wandsworth, Lend Lease’s vision for Cambium has been to create a sustainable, inclusive community incorporating the best principles of quality residential design, delivering a place where people will aspire to live and thrive.  Scott Brownrigg's masterplan and architectural design for the exemplary urban development makes use of its ‘T-shaped’ site, maximizing the opportunity of creating a vibrant and sustainable new community with plenty of opportunities for residents to come together to enjoy the great outdoors, meet with new neighbours and live life to the full as part of a long lasting community.

The development has a total of 110 residential units including a six storey apartment block of 55 one, two and three-bedroom units with car parking at basement level. A further 55 three, four and five-bedroom houses are a mix of typologies – townhouses, mews houses, courtyard style houses and semi-detached houses. During the evolution of the masterplan we created a series of 12 housing typologies to respond to the proposed landscape, site orientation and the surrounding context.

The masterplan is mainly east-west orientated and Scott Brownrigg carefully designed it around a 200 year old oak tree, believed to be planted by the celebrated landscape architect Capability Brown. This together with an urban meadow form the heart of the development.

Winners will be announced at the RESI Awards on 15 May 2019 at the Grosvenor House, London.
