The Brief

We were commissioned as the design co-ordinator, architect and interior designer for Manchester Airport’s £165m second international terminal. The terminal has been ranked in the top twenty contemporary buildings by industry professionals at the Building Awards.

Concept

The 92,900 sq m state-of-the-art terminal was completed on time and on budget in less than four years from Scott Brownrigg’s appointment. Catering for 8 million passengers a year, it operates both charter and scheduled flights. It has 16 gates, of which 9 have bridges. The design of the terminal makes it capable of extensive expansion.

Features

The terminal has 100% hold baggage security checking and also its own power station to generate both heat and power, which significantly conserves total energy use and reduces pollution.
